“Meteen bij binnenkomst dacht ik: “Dat is hem!” Die moeten wij hebben. “Hier is Ron Mazer.”

Via Google had ik me enigszins verdiept wat zijn achtergrond was en hoe Ron er uit zou moeten zien. De foto’s die ik heb gevonden, oogt hij nogal streng. In werkelijkheid is Ron heel toegankelijk en super aardig. Het is een voorzitter die luistert naar zijn leden, maar impopulaire maatregelen niet uit de weg zal gaan. Hij vindt vergaderen geen probleem, maar na ander half uur moet het wel worden afgerond. Van eindeloos discussiëren, houdt hij niet. Tjak, tjak tjak methode.

Zelf heeft Ron er geen problemen mee als hij alleen thuis is en moet werken, terwijl zijn vrouw lekker aan het shoppen is op het Caribische gebied. Hij praat graag en is enthousiaste over zijn Tennis Vereniging Huizen. Hij is goed in het onderhandelen en het samen brengen tussen jongeren en ouderen. Het ledental is na zijn komst, nu vier jaar geleden, verdubbeld. Een voorzitter wordt toch ook op cijfers afgerekend.

Hij is zakelijk en internationaal gericht. Toch als hij over de vereniging praat, heeft hij het over de gezelligste club van Nederland. Hij is gek op netwerken, communicatie en relaties. Ron heeft een van zijn dochters niet Kim met één M, maar Kimm met een dubbele MM genoemd. Dan wordt er altijd over haar gepraat. En dat praten doet hij met vol overgave over zijn club. Hij is een waar ambassadeur van Tennis Vereniging Huizen. Leuke vent, leuk gesprek.
